Richard Mahoney
Counsel
Richard brings extensive knowledge of government operations, regulations and decision making to his position as Counsel for OEB Enterprise. He combines that with business acumen and a wealth of real world experience. Richard has represented clients from multiple sectors including telecommunications, broadcasting, film production, natural resources, renewable fuels and alternative energy, transportation, pharmaceuticals, public institutions, high technology and financial services. He has extensive expertise helping distressed industries find creative public policy solutions.
Richard has been a partner and counsel at one of Canada's leading national law firms, building and heading that firm's public policy practice from 1994 until 2007. Richard also served, from 2001 until 2004, as Senior Vice-President of Borealis Capital Corporation, a major Canadian merchant bank managing billions of dollars of infrastructure assets. He resigned that position to seek elected office as the federal Liberal candidate in Ottawa Centre.
Richard is a former Executive Assistant to Rt. Hon. Paul Martin, serving as his first executive assistant and helping him throughout his career in politics. He has exceptional experience in Canada's governing process, including service as a special assistant to the Rt. Hon. John Turner, as well as to then-Finance Minister Hon. Marc Lalonde, and as an advisor to various other politicians at all levels of government in Canada.
A frequent commentator on Canadian politics and public policy, Richard is also a former President of the Ontario Liberal Party, serving in a senior campaign role and advisory capacities in various provincial election campaigns. He also spent seven years as a weekly panelist on TVOntario's award-winning "Studio 2", and has appeared frequently on various other media such as CTV, CBC, Newsworld, Radio-Canada, and The Globe & Mail.
Richard is also active in the business world and is also a senior officer and director of HousAll Systems Corp, an Ottawa based company that markets transitional shelters to the worldwide market.
