How do you increase the number of charitable donations bequeathed to the Arthritis Society?

Answer:

You design and distribute a brochure that highlights research undertaken by the Arthritis Society as well as medical breakthroughs that the Society has been a part of.  You also underscore the essential role that personal donations play in funding the Arthritis Society and emphasize the ease of incorporating the Arthritis Society into one’s will.

We create a brochure that includes testimonials from individuals and families affected by arthritis. These stories highlight the advancements made in Arthritis treatment and care since the society began its work.

One especially powerful story contrasts the prognosis for a woman diagnosed with juvenile arthritis in the 1960s versus the prognosis of a woman diagnosed in the last decade. While the younger woman goes on to swim across Lake Ontario, the older woman is confined to a wheelchair.


Result:

A world without arthritis, the brochure states, is only possible with continued support and funding from the public. The brochure also includes a form and instruction guide on bequeathing a gift to the Arthritis Society.

In two months, the mailing generated approximately 100 responses from donors who committed to leave bequests to The Arthritis Society. Based on the average bequest, the mailing should generate revenue 80 times its cost.
